Me complace, como Presidente del Departamento de Cirugía Familiar Daughtry de la Universidad de Miami, escribir este prólogo de la primera edición del Atlas de Cirugía Endovascular Venosa del Dr. José Almeida, quien es uno de los nuestros.

El Departamento de Cirugía en la escuela Miller de Medicina de la Universidad de Miami está compuesto de 17 divisiones que proporcionan cuidados quirúrgicos primarios, secundarios, terciarios y de cuarto nivel en el Hospital Memorial Jackson, uno de los hospitales de mayor actividad en Norte América y en el Hospital de la Universidad de Miami. Con más de 560 miembros del personal, la misión del Departamento consiste en proveer cuidados clínicos de alta calidad con compasión, clase de educación médica en todo el mundo e investigación de vanguardia. El Dr. Almeida finalizó como residente de Cirugía en 1996 en la Universidad de Miami y luego fue a completar su postgrado en Cirugía vascular en la Universidad de Missouri-Columbia. Después de regresar a Miami en 1998, y practicar la cirugía arterial abierta y endovascular durante 5 años, decidió enfocar sus esfuerzos en el campo emergente de la cirugía endovascular venosa.
